The city of Oakland is stepping up its fight against illegal dumping by deploying 15 additional surveillance cameras equipped with Flock Safety automated license plate readers. These cameras, previously introduced across the Bay Area over the summer, will enhance the city’s efforts to identify and prosecute offenders.

Since 2022, Oakland has utilized these cameras to gather evidence against illegal dumping activities. The footage collected will be crucial in building cases, with violators facing fines of up to $1,000 per day. City officials are also encouraging residents to assist in the effort by sharing photos or any identifying information related to illegal dumping incidents. This initiative aims to create a cleaner and safer environment for all Oakland residents.
