A suspect was arrested after a woman’s body was discovered in the backyard of a Costa Mesa home Thursday.

Police responded to a home on the 1900 block of Maple Avenue at around 2:27 p.m. where a 38-year-old woman was found dead at the scene.

Neighbors told KTLA the woman’s body was discovered inside a trash bin in the backyard.

Costa Mesa detectives later identified the woman’s friend as a suspect in her death. He was located at a Glendale home on the 3700 block of El Lado Drive where he was taken into custody.

Details are limited and the circumstances leading up to the woman’s death remain unclear.

Neighbors in the area told KTLA they were shocked to learn a deadly crime happened in an otherwise quiet neighborhood.
