The Cub Scouts of Pack 56 gathered at the First Presbyterian Church of Newark on Tuesday night to decorate pumpkins, but these were no ordinary jack-o'-lanterns. Carrying on a Pack 56 tradition that dates back decades, the Scouts decorated the pumpkins by hammering in nuts, bolts, washers, etc. to create metallic designs. Some made faces, while others went for a more abstract design. Scout leaders say it's a unique tradition that the kids look forward to every year and is safer than carving pumpkins with knives.
