There has been much media coverage about how people are "fleeing" to Florida. In fact, in 2023, approximately 940,000 moved to Florida. However, some left Florida as well. This article will reveal where they went. Here's a hint. It wasn't very far.

The Study In Question And What It Measured: Recent census data has revealed that 510,000 people packed up and left the Sunshine State in 2023. That's second only to California at 690,000.

The study also identified where the relocators leaving Florida were most likely to go.

The Most Likely Destinations For Those Leaving Florida: Here are the most common places relocators from Florida went, along with the number of relocators for each state.

Georgia - just over 55,000

Texas - 50,500

North Carolina - 39,900

Virginia - 24,700

New York - 24,700

Why People Leave Florida?: According to City Movers, some common reasons that people are leaving Florida include the rising costs of living, weather concerns, overcrowding and tourism, and concerns about school and healthcare systems.

Some who have relocated to Florida and then changed their minds have spoken out about some of the reasons for their decision. Jodi Cummings moved from Connecticut to Florida in 2021 but found that Florida wasn't what she expected. She told NBC:

“It wasn’t the utopia on any level that I thought it would be. I thought Florida would be an easier lifestyle. I thought the pace would be a little bit quieter. I thought it would be warmer. I didn’t expect it to be literally 100 degrees at night. It was incredibly difficult to make friends. And it was expensive - very expensive.”
