DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A man was found dead on the train tracks on North Range Street in Dothan Tuesday night.

Dothan Police identified the victim as 64-year-old Scottie Earl Jones.

According to Dothan Police, officers found Scottie Earl Jones, 64, dead on the train tracks along North Range Street, near the East Main Overpass, after receiving a tip that a man was down on the tracks. Jones, who was discovered with his legs cut off, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police report that Jones was pinned by the train while attempting to go under the railcars to get to the other side while the train was in motion. Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd said that in addition to Jones’s legs being cut off, he also suffered blunt force trauma to the head.

The investigation is ongoing, and officers are waiting for the results of a toxicology report.
