Teenage Walmart Worker Found Dead In The Bakery's Walk In Oven

A tragic incident at a Canadian Walmart has sparked an investigation after a teenage worker was discovered lifeless inside a bakery's walk-in oven.

Halifax Regional Police responded to a call about a sudden death at the Walmart on Mumford Road on Saturday, October 19, around 9:30 p.m. local time, according to a statement released on Monday, October 21.

The police confirmed to People Magazine that "A 19-year-old woman employed at the store was found deceased."

The authorities stated they were collaborating with Occupational Health and Safety and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service to determine what caused the young woman's death.

In a follow-up statement on Tuesday, October 22, police revealed that the employee had been "found in a large walk-in oven in the store's bakery area."

Police emphasized that the ongoing investigation would be "complex" and involve "several partner agencies." They cautioned that such investigations "may take considerable time." They urged the public to "avoid sharing unconfirmed information on social media."

The statement concluded by asking people to "consider how speculation might affect the woman's family, colleagues, and loved ones."

As reported by CBC, Constable Martin Cromwell addressed reporters on Monday, saying, "We ask the public to be patient with our investigation and remember that family members and co-workers are involved."

Walmart spokesperson Amanda Moss released a statement on Wednesday, October 23, that staff were "devastated." "We're deeply saddened for our associates and their families," Moss said. We're focused on supporting our associates and ensuring they have the help they need. As the police have stated, this is a complex situation, and the investigation is ongoing."

The statement concluded, "Our store will remain closed until further notice."

Nova Scotia's Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration expressed condolences to the employee's family, calling it an "incredibly difficult time."

They confirmed issuing a stop work order on October 22 for the bakery and one piece of equipment at the Walmart location. The statement added, "As this is an active investigation, we can't provide more details now. Please note that workplace investigations are complex and may take time."

Satnam Singh Randhawa, who chairs the Maritime Sikh Society board, confirmed to CBC that the woman was part of the Sikh community.

"It's very upsetting, you know. Young people come here full of hopes and dreams, working hard, and then this happens," Randhawa said, according to the outlet.

As the investigation unfolds, the community grapples with the loss of a young life and the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. Authorities continue to piece together the details while urging sensitivity and patience during this difficult time.
