Murray County Conservation District and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Oklahoma will be holding the first public meeting for the Rock Creek Watershed Project. The Rock Creek Watershed Project involves completing a USDA-NRCS Supplemental Watershed Plan and Environmental Document (Plan-ED) for the Flood Water Retarding Structures (FWRS) Rock Creek No. 10 and No. 12 in Murray County. Anticipated improvements to these dams involve evaluating safety concerns resulting from a failure of the dams, assessing necessary upgrades to meet NRCS and Oklahoma dam safety criteria and performance standards for current high hazard potential classification, and maintaining the existing level of flood protection. A Plan-ED will be developed for each site to determine how each dam should be rehabilitated to meet current NRCS safety criteria.
