    Medina man struck, killed while riding bike: OSHP

    LAFAYETTE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a Medina man was struck and killed while riding his bicycle Wednesday afternoon.

    The crash happened just after 4:30 p.m. along State Route 162, near Deerview Lane, in Lafayette Township of Medina County.

    According to state troopers, the preliminary investigation revealed that the man, riding his bike on a bike trail in Buckeye Woods Park, tried to cross State Route 162 when he was struck by a 2020 Yamaha YZR-R3 motorcycle.

    The bicyclist, identified as 72-year-old John McCandlish, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The motorcyclist, an 18-year-old Medina woman, was taken to Medina Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, state troopers said.

    The fatal crash remains under investigation at this time.

    This was on my way home. Road was completely blocked by emergency personal. Prayers to both families. They really should put those flash signs for bikers or walkers. Growth is too high for traffic to see people not paying attention to traffic.
