    Middle school student charged with gun possession in Albany

    ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — A 13-year-old middle schooler in Albany is facing weapons charges after police said he had a gun.

    Police were called around 9:10 a.m. Wednesday after staff from North Albany Middle School found a handgun on a retaining wall directly across the street in the park. The school uses the park for recess.

    At the scene, police found a loaded 9mm handgun. Staff told police they saw the student earlier in the day in the area where the handgun was found. He then went to school without the handgun. He was taken into custody without incident.

    The handgun was reported stolen to the Atlanta Police Department.

    The teenager was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of criminal possession of stolen property. He was arraigned and placed under home confinement with an electronic monitoring device. His identity is not being released due to his age.
