    Newark-Granville Youth Symphony welcomes new director Heather Lofdahl

    The Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra has welcomed a new Youth Symphony Music Director, Heather Lofdahl. Lofdahl replaces NGYS director and founder, Susan Larson. Lofdahl is assistant professor of music education at Ohio State University, where she is the director of OSU’s string education program. She previously served as music director of the Greensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra and assistant conductor of the University of North Carolina Greensboro Sinfonia.

    Lofdahl has more than a decade of experience teaching elementary through university orchestra students in Illinois, Georgia, North Carolina, and Ohio. She holds bachelor of arts degrees in music education and viola performance from Augustana College; master of music degrees in music education and viola performance from the University of North Carolina Greensboro; and a doctorate in music education from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. She is an active guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States.

    The first NGYS concert of the season is Nov,10 at 7 p.m. at the John Gilbert Reese Center on the shared campus of OSU at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College.
