MINOT, N.D.– The Minot North Sentinels Cross Country team, are looking to make some noise in the state tournament, after a 6th place finish at WDA. This Minot North Sentinels team only posses three seniors, and all three of them believe that they are shaping the future of the Minot North Cross Country team.

“It’s defiantly different being the number one runner in Minot, leading all of these kids around, because I am shaping the future of this team which is a wild experience to have. We defiantly had some strong performances. At WDA we took 6th place and missed 5th place by 11 points. I think 6th place is good for a brand new high school this year this year”, said Dallin Chapman.

The three seniors on this team took on a more strenuous approach into making it to the state tournament, considering the fact, that they could’ve stayed at the Magic City Campus with a program that is already polished.

“I saw this team and I was like they work a lot harder than Minot High, and that’s what I really like about this team. We’re a hardworking group that shows up day in and day out. Me, Dallin, and Aaron create good examples for all of these young kids and middle schoolers. We show them what it’s like to work hard day in and day out and kind of just make a dynasty here”, said Nolan Howey.

Although Minot High may have kept a lot of talent, the splitting between the two schools may have just set up things up for the have nots to have it all.

“The splitting of the teams with Minot High and Minot North kind of was a deal beaker, but with moving to North it’s better opportunities for some of our guys who couldn’t get the opportunity at Minot High with amount of people they had over there, so having a bunch of these guys come up here for their first year makes it a lot better off to work harder and stuff like that to get the better opportunities” said Aaron Tack.

With a lot of success in their first season, a lot of runners are crediting first year Head Coach Troy Wendt on their early success.

“He’s been incredible as a Coach for this organization here. A lot of the times he’ll give us some good motivation and some good tips with running and stuff like that”, said Tack.
