MOGADORE, Ohio (WKBN) – An Akron man is in the Portage County Jail after the Ohio State Highway Patrol followed him in a chase from Mahoning County to Portage County Wednesday afternoon.

OSHP said the driver, Larry A. Finch, 41, was booked into the Portage County Jail on charges of felony failure to comply/fleeing.

The chase began in Palmyra Township shortly before 3 p.m. when troopers tried to pull him over for a speeding violation on Interstate 80 westbound. Troopers said after Finch didn’t stop, the chase continued westbound on Interstate 80 and Interstate 76. The pursuit was then terminated due to unsafe conditions.

Shortly thereafter, deputies from Portage County located the vehicle on Waterloo Road in Mogadore. Troopers again began pursuing the vehicle and were able to deflate one of the tires on the vehicle the suspect was driving with stop sticks. Reports said a Portage County Sheriff’s deputy was able to stop the chase with a PIT maneuver.

The Mogadore Police Department assisted in the incident.

Troopers said that the chase reached 120 mph.

Reports said that Finch was taken to the hospital for precautionary evaluation before he was taken into custody. Troopers reportedly found suspected narcotics in the vehicle.

OSHP said the incident remains under investigation, and additional charges are pending.

Stupid driver and bored cops. Why risk so many lives over a speeding ticket when they could have ran his information and slow walked him by calling ahead for backup and keeping things safe. I know this area well and at 120 mph, it didn’t take long to blow through there, that’s for sure. I’m no genius but something in the milk ain’t clean. I’ll bet from the beginning of the chase it the capture, the deer’s are stumping and screwing like crazy 🤪 it’s mating season lol 😆 IJS
