A convoy of more than 30 vintage military vehicles will stop in Natchitoches on Thursday, staying to participate in the Northwestern State University homecoming parade on Friday.

The convoy later will pass through Alexandria on its way to the National World War II Museum in New Orleans.

The historical vehicles began their more than 2,500-mile journey in Minnesota on Oct. 1, according to a news release from the Military Vehicle Preservation Association.

It is following most of the 1918 Jefferson Highway, also known as the "Pine to Palm Highway" that starts in Winnipeg, Canada, and ends in New Orleans. MVPA asks residents along the highway display their American flags and look for the vehicles as they roll into Natchitoches.

Drivers are expected to arrive in Natchitoches about 4 p.m. Thursday. The vehicles and drivers will be at the Natchitoches Riverbank starting at 8:30 a.m. Friday, and the public is invited to visit with them and learn about their preservation efforts, it reads.

Some of the vehicles will leave before 5 p.m. to lead the parade, which starts at Prather Coliseum at 5:30 p.m.

The convoy also has an overnight stop scheduled for Saturday in Alexandria/Pineville.
