WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The City of Watsonville unanimously approved an affordable housing project proposed by Habitat for Humanity Tuesday evening.

The development will include 13 affordable homes for first-time home buyers with five units set aside for farmworkers, according to the proposal.

People interested in applying need to have a gross household income between 50% and 80% of the median Santa Cruz County income depending on their household size.

Additionally, Habitat for Humanity is requiring selected homeowners to put 500 hours of labor into building their new home. They say that if at any point a homeowner chooses to sell their home, the unit will be sold back to Habitat for Humanity who will then seek out another eligible family to fill the vacancy.
