Jeffrey Kniffin, 50, was charged with first-degree armed robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree possession of hollow-point bullets, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said in a news release on Thursday, Oct. 24. Wall police responded to a robbery report at the Bank of America on Route 35 at around 3:24 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Officers learned a man entered the bank, pulled out a gun, and stole "a large amount of cash" of more than $5,000. The suspect was described as wearing a mask, glasses, baseball cap, black hoodie, and gloves.

An off-duty officer was driving in the area when he found out about the robbery. As he drove toward the bank, he saw a man on a bicycle that matched the suspect's description.

The officer followed the man, later identified as Kniffin, to his home on M Street where he was arrested.

Kniffin was brought to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution to await a first court appearance.
