    AMIkids Maritime Academy hosts career day

    BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Industry professionals came out to the AMIkids Maritime Academy for career day. Students spoke to local organizations like the sheriff’s department, Gulf Coast State College, and the military.

    It exposes them to local jobs, encouraging them to stay in the area. Students learn construction, robotics, and culinary arts at the Amikids Maritime Academy.

    While talking to vendors, they can find out how they can use their skills in a future career.

    “We want the children to see what their options are. Talk to the industry professionals, find out what they need in order to enter those fields, and start kind of thinking about what I want to do, where I want to go, or if I know where I want to go, what’s necessary in order to be successful in that area,” AMIkids Maritime Academy Principal Carolyn McBean said.

    AMIkids Maritime Academy offers unique education opportunities like diving and construction.

    They have 26 students enrolled in 9th through 11th grade and will be adding a 12th grade to the academy by next school year. They will have another career day in the spring.
