1. On October 12, 2024, at approximately 1:10 a.m., Police Officers Andrias Bonilla and Josh Campoverde were on the 200 block of Washington Street when a bystander pointed out a vehicle he believed was being driven by an intoxicated person. Officers pulled the vehicle over on the 100 block of Washington Street and when the driver, later identified as 23-year-old Nick Zapatanga of Newark, rolled down the window, they smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath. He was ordered out of the car and a standardized field sobriety test was performed, after which he was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Zapatanga was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. It was discovered he had a warrant out of Newark. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. He was given a new court date in Newark and as per John’s Law, was released into the custody of a responsible party.
