If there’s one thing to be said about the bread selection at Trader Joe's , it's that there is no shortage of options. The fan-favorite grocery store stocks everything, including standard white sandwich bread and a variety of different sourdoughs , French loaves, multi-grain breads and much more. And then there are the seasonal bread drops, which include two of our current favorites, the Maple Streusel Bread and the viral Pumpkin Brioche Twist .
But there's one thing that's always perplexed us about the TJ's bread section: the bread shelves are so deep that it makes searching for the perfect loaf more challenging than it should be. But thanks to TikTok, we'll never have that problem again.

What's The Best Way to Access the Bread at Trader Joe's?
“I was today years old when I discovered that you can pull out the shelves instead of bending over and breaking your back,” @meisanjar said in amazement, “It’s the little details that make the shopping experience better.” In the video, you can see how to do it: Just press in to unlock the shelf and it will slide forward. When you're done, push it back until it locks in place (you'll hear a click).

The main reason bread shelves at Trader Joe's can be pulled out is to make it easier and more efficient for employees to restock. As is the case at most grocery stores, they arrange the products by expiration date using the FIFO (first in, first out) system. That means the newest loaves are in the back, which is why you'll often see customers reaching waaaayyy back to grab a loaf.
While some people online see the drawer trick as a welcome discovery, others expressed anxiety.“...I feel like I'm gonna get in trouble,” one person sheepishly commented in response to the video. “As a worker, just be very careful and push it back,” another commenter chimed in. “We’ve had people break it and get hurt because they’ve left it out, so just push it back in and we really don’t mind.”
