Residents woke up due to a furnace fire, evacuated the home and called 911.Homer fire chief Jay Riley and the village police department found “smoke condition” in the home, which prompted a call for an “all hands” response, the report noted.According to the report, units arrived and extinguished combustible materials burning on the residence. The units also cleared the home of smoke.Homer’s first responders were assisted by the Cortland Fire Department, the Homer code enforcement department, NYSEG and the American Red Cross.The Homer Fire Department is reminding everyone as the heating season begins, it is recommended to check the area around stoves and furnaces to ensure it is clear and ready to use.
