Waterbury man gets 4 years for involvement in drug trafficking ring

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — A Waterbury man was sentenced Friday to four years in federal prison for participating in a drug trafficking ring, according to the office of the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Jesus “Zeus” Maldonado, 34, was sentenced in Hartford to 51 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release for trafficking narcotics.

Maldonado was found to be involved in the local “William Street” drug trafficking organization after investigators said he was heard via wiretap talking about distributing narcotics on multiple occasions.

He was also seen on video doing a 500-gram cocaine transaction, according to the office of the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Seventeen people were charged with federal offenses in the same investigation and investigators seized about 700 grams of crack cocaine, more than 900 vials (caps) of crack, about 200 grams of loose fentanyl, more than 1,600 dose bags of fentanyl/heroin, two stolen firearms, numerous rounds of ammunition, and more than $39,000 in cash.

Maldonado has been detained since his arrest. In July, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances.
