Sacred Heart Parish School in Hollister recently received the Report of Findings from a rigorous Accreditation Review by both the Western Catholic Educational Association and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Background
The Western Catholic Education Association was originally formed in California under the auspices of the Catholic Bishops of the Arch/Diocese of California. Membership now includes ten other states and Guam, and one of the most important missions of the association is Catholic School Accreditation. This is defined as the process for determining the quality of a school’s overall Catholic identity and overall educational program.

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accrediting Commission is a world renowned accrediting association, and one of six regional accrediting agencies in the U.S. The Association provides assistance to schools worldwide, especially in California, Hawaii, Guam, Asia, the Pacific Region, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.

The accreditation process (self-study, school visitation by a review team, action plan, and on- going accountability) is very similar to the Western Catholic Education Association Catholic School Accreditation process, and the recent review at Sacred Heart was done jointly with both associations.

Sacred Heart Parish School is one of the Catholic Schools in the Monterey Diocese, and has been educating students in Hollister and San Benito County for over 130 years, and currently serves 260 students in grades Preschool – 8th Grade. Sacred Heart provides a safe, faith-filled environment for its students, enriched with Catholic traditions. Educators, students, and parents are dedicated to the pursuit of academic excellence, the achievement of individual potential, and a culture of high expectations.

‘The Visiting Committee observed that a key word used to describe SHPS is “community.”
SHPS has served the community of Hollister for over 130 years and all stakeholders describe the school as a faith-filled and welcoming community. It was apparent from the first moments on campus that shareholders of the school actively join one another on the journey of faith. Parents shared experiences not only of that welcome but of evangelization by the school and conversion and renewal of faith in their families prompted by their involvement in the school.’

Accreditation Results
Because of the positive observations of the Visiting Committee during the review, both Associations granted Sacred Heart Parish School the maximum number of years of Accreditation, from 2024 to 2030. What’s more, this is the third review in a row where Sacred Heart has been granted the maximum number of years of accreditation, 2012, 2018, and now 2024, which is considered an exceptional achievement.
