Drew Commesso Recalled, Will Join Blackhawks to Start Road Trip

In somewhat surprising news on Friday evening, the Blackhawks announced defenseman Isaak Phillips was sent back to the Rockford IceHogs and goaltender Drew Commesso was recalled.

Why? Blackhawks backup Arvid Söderblom is under the weather.

Commesso could make his NHL debut for the Blackhawks in Dallas on Saturday evening. Veteran goaltender Laurent Brossoit is still rehabbing from his knee injury and isn’t ready for NHL action quite yet.

The 22-year-old is beginning his second professional season. The Blackhawks originally drafted Commesso in the second round (No. 46 overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft. He signed his entry-level deal after three strong seasons at Boston University. He appeared in 38 games for the IceHogs last year and two thus far to start the 2024-25 season.
