Originally conceived for a competition on the theme of “mutual aid,” this installation critiques the appropriation of cooperation into exploitative financial concepts such as “social capital” and explores the evolution of deep data since the 1980s. Highlighting how algorithms increasingly control access to essentials like water, food, healthcare, and energy, Mengüç’s work invites viewers to step outside these systems.The installation offers an interactive experience: visitors can engage with deep data through the ancient practice of farming by planting seeds and nurturing growth, fostering mutual aid in its truest form.About the artist:Murat Cem Mengüç is an artist, activist, and historian. He is the founder of Studio Teleocene, dedicated to art and environmental research, and a 2024 Environmental Justice Fellow at the Aspen Institute.
