Bears Add Three Players to Active Roster Before Week 8 Game vs. Commanders

The Chicago Bears are shaking things up on their roster ahead of Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders.

One day after parting ways with wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. and fullback Khari Blasingame, the team has announced three new players are joining Sunday’s game-day roster .

Meet some new Bears players who will be available for Week 8

Let me be clear and point out that all three of these players were already on the Bears’ roster. But two of the new additions to this week’s roster pool are players coming off injured reserve. Meanwhile, a third is being flexed onto the active roster from the practice squad.

    Here is the rundown:

    • Defensive lineman Jacob Martin is one of two players getting activated from injured reserve. Martin has been on IR since August after suffering a toe injury. A free-agent signing from March , Martin has 91 games of NFL experience with the Seattle Seahawks (2018), Houston Texans (2019-21), Denver Broncos (2022), New York Jets (2022), and Indianapolis Colts (2023). Martin figures to join a rotation of defensive linemen that has five players in the top 50 at their positions per Pro Football Focus’ grading scale.

    • Running back Travis Homer is the other Bears player getting the green light from the medical team and coming off IR. Homer has been off the radar since Sept. 22 after suffering a finger injury in practice. I’m not quite sure where Homer will fit into the running back rotation, but it will certainly be behind D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson. For what it’s worth, Homer’s special teams prowess will likely put him in a position to be a useful piece of the puzzle.
    • Safety Tarvarius Moore gets the call-up from the practice squad for the second consecutive week. This is the third time he has been elevated to the active roster and appeared on 10 special teams snaps in the team’s Week 6 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

I suppose it is notable that offensive lineman Larry Borom, who practiced in full capacity on Thursday and Friday, did not get the elevation from injured reserve. Perhaps the fourth-year offensive lineman still needs practice time before getting fully up to speed. Stay tuned to see when (or if) he joins the Bears active roster.
