Gophers stamp 21-point lead vs. Maryland after Justin Walley's pick-six

The Minnesota Golden Gophers aren't wasting any time introducing themselves to their opponent on Saturday afternoon.

The Gophers scored on their first two offensive possessions against the Maryland Terrapins to take a 14-0 lead and then cornerback Justin Walley jumped a Billy Edwards Jr. pass to take it 32 yards for a pick-six.

The defensive touchdown stamped a 21-0 lead for the Gophers with 4:25 remaining in the first quarter.

The other two defensive drives for the Gophers saw them stop Maryland on downs the first drive and a three-and-out punt on the second drive.

Quarterback Max Brosmer has started the game 9-for-11 for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Daniel Jackson has four catches for 54 yards and a score as well.

The interception by Walley was Minnesota's 14th of the season, the most by any Big Ten team and the second-most among all FBS schools. On the next defensive drive for the Gophers, true freshman Koi Perich also nabbed an interception, to tie Minnesota with James Madison (15) for the most among all FBS schools.

The Gophers added a field goal early in the second quarter to make it a 24-0 lead.

Minnesota entered the contest as 5.5-point favorites and are already running the score up through the first quarter. We'll see if Minnesota can keep the momentum going against the best passing Big Ten team.
