More record high temperatures are likely Sunday and Monday afternoon for central and southern parts of New Mexico, but cooler air will start moving into the Four Corners region as a storm system approaches the state Monday afternoon. A couple of spotty showers and mountain snow will even be possible by Monday evening in northwest New Mexico and southwest Colorado.

Our next fall storm system starts moving into New Mexico on Tuesday. Winds will be the biggest story Tuesday afternoon for the majority of New Mexico. Winds could gust up to 60 mph across parts of New Mexico, increasing areas of blowing dust and an elevated fire danger. Spotty showers and mountain snow will continue into northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. A strong cold front moves across the state Tuesday evening, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures by Wednesday afternoon.

The storm system moves out of the state on Thursday, but it will bring part of New Mexico its first freeze of the season Thursday morning including the Albuquerque Metro. Temperatures will be warmer Thursday afternoon, but only a few degrees with many areas actually staying cooler than normal for Halloween.
