Celebrating his unanimous Rookie of the Year victory for the NBA 2023-24 season, Wemby arrived to the game in a special edition Nike GT Hustle 3 “Wookiee of the Year.”</p><p>The No. 1 overall pick of the 2023 NBA Draft has been open about being a fan of the sci-fi genre when it comes to films. Ahead of the game, he mentioned that his top three favorite Star Wars films include <i>Revenge of the Sith</i>, <i>Attack of the Clones</i> and <i>Empire Strikes Back</i>. Taking a page from the George Lucas films, the 20-year-old basketball star wears a <i>Star Wars</i>-inspired design on the Hustles. The shoe features thick fur throughout, resembling that of a Wookiee. The sneaker’s branding is play on the phrase “Rookie of the Year,” a nod to Wemby’s accomplishments. </p><p>Wemby’s love for the franchise was evident when he revealed that he bought a LEGO Millennium Falcon set as his first purchase following his rookie contract. The new PEs are a nod to his love for the film franchise, as well as his rookie year. In his rookie season, he had 71 starts, averaging 21.4 points and 10.6 rebounds and accomplishing a league-leading 3.6 blocks per game. He shot 32.5% from beyond the arc and led France to a silver medal victory during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
