The benches are always enjoyed by the community during warmer months of the year. This is just one of the things the Friends have done for the library this year. They also support the summer reading program and other programming by helping pay for things.The Friends have an ongoing book sale in the library meeting room and the money raised goes to the summer reading program. They will have a booth at the Milford Community Holiday Bazaar at Milford School in November. Please support the local Friends.Purdue Extension ProgramPurdue Extension is offering a program, “What’s in Your Bag?,” from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14. Are you worried someone may be able to steal information by reading the credit cards you carry? What if you lost your wallet or purse? Find out what you should never carry with you and other excellent tips for protecting yourself from thieves and scammers. Call (574) 658-4312 to register for the program and register early. They need at lease 10 participants registered to have the program.Children’s Book WeekEvery year since 1919, the library has had the opportunity to celebrate Children’s Book Week, for a week in May and a week in November. They are celebrating “No Rules, Just Read!” by having a drawing every day for a stuffed animal and a book in the children’s department.October Is SocktoberSocktober is coming to an end. Please bring your donation of new socks to the Milford Public Library by Oct. 31. It’s looking forward to giving them to the Milford School, Milford Food Bank and Milford Food Pantry so people needing warm socks can get them.During the month of November, they will be collecting nonperishable food items for the Milford Food Bank. There will be one box upstairs and another downstairs to collect the donations. Shampoo, toothpaste, diapers and other items are also welcome donations.Candy Bar Donations NeededThis is your last chance to donate full-size candy bars to the library for the 13 Ghosts Scavenger Hunt happening Oct. 28-Nov. 1. Bring your donations to the adult circulation desk. Be sure to come in sometime this week and find the 13 ghosts and your Halloween treat.LEGO SaturdayLEGO Saturday is from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 2. Children ages 3-15 years old can come to the library and work on the monthly LEGO Challenge of building a Thanksgiving table or work on another project. The library owns lots of LEGO blocks to build with so use your imagination.13 Ghosts Scavenger HuntThis year, the library is celebrating Halloween from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1. You can do the scavenger hunt anytime when it’s open that week.There are 13 ghosts hiding throughout the library, looking for books to read. Pick up your scavenger hunt sheet at the adult circulation desk and find six of the 13 ghosts, then head down to the children’s department to find more ghosts. When you have found all 13 ghosts, turn your scavenger hunt sheet in at the children’s circulation desk and collect a full-size candy bar as your prize.
