<body><div><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=48OujF_0wOXYuY600" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=48OujF_0wOXYuY600" width="1200" height="630" >CANNONSBURG From an academic project to now a community staple, the Boyd County High School band hosted its 19thAnnual Alumni night.John Johnson, the director of the BCHS band, invited all former band members to play together once again during the Boyd County vs Lawrence County football game on Friday.“One of the things I would love to know is that my students, after they graduate, they continue to play their instruments,” said Johnson. “I think it’s important to have avenues like this for our alumni to come play.”Johnson, a Morehead State University graduate, became the BCHS band director in 2006 as soon as he graduated. As a new teacher, he was required to do a project for the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program and he decided to focus on the alumni band, and has been hosting alumni night ever since.Guy Molinary, the Boyd County Middle School band director, BCHS assistant director and 2004 MSU graduate, also assisted in making the annual event possible.Alumni were sent sheet music a week before the event, including Boyd County classics such as the “BCHS Fight Song”, “Go Big Red”, “Lion Fanfare” and more.With only an hour of rehearsal, the “best band in the land,” according to Johnson, played together like no time had passed.“I'm so proud to be a graduate of Boyd County. I absolutely loved my high school years and all of my teachers,” said Cassie Hites, a 2015 BCHS graduate and 2019 MSU graduate. “And of course, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Molinary, they have shaped me into the person who I am today, and I'm so grateful for that. Going back feels like going home.”During the performance of the “BCHS Fight Song,” Hites had the opportunity to conduct.Hites is currently in her second year of teaching at Paintsville and is the only band director in the district teaching general music for the elementary school, along with middle school, high school band and choir. She is currently working on achieving her master’s degree from the University of Kentucky.The BCHS band will also host another alumni night event later in the year during basketball season.</div></body>
