"They got the streamers coming down" - Kings announcers diss the Lakers for overly-celebrating after finally beating Sacramento

Before the 2024-25 NBA season commenced, few expected the Los Angeles Lakers to start their campaign strongly, considering the championship-caliber teams they were facing in the opening week. However, after registering a comeback win against the Phoenix Suns on Friday night, the Purple and Gold recorded another hard-fought win, this time against the Sacramento Kings at home, stretching their record to 3-0 for the first time since the 2010 season.

This significant triumph marked Anthony Davis ' first win over Domantas Sabonis in 11 matchups. As the home team celebrated with confetti falling from the rafters inside the Crypto.com Arena, a Kings announcer was bugged by the celebration, questioning the excessiveness of a regular-season victory.

Kings announcer gets bugged by Lakers' extreme celebration

Whenever AD faces Domas, he consistently drops better numbers, yet the Kings center manages to lead his team to victory. Despite "The Brow" averaging 23.8 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in head-to-head contests, Sabonis's impact was more effectively felt.

However, on Saturday night, Davis didn't only outscore the three-time All-Star by dropping 31 points compared to Sabonis's 29, but the Lakers star also had a better impact on the defensive end by logging three steals and two blocks. The 2020 NBA Champs celebrated accordingly after seeing AD finally break his streak of losses against the Lithuanian, but that enthusiasm didn't sit well with a particular announcer.

"Oh my gosh, they got the streamers coming down like the Dodgers just won the pennant," the Kings play-play guy said. "You gotta understand, this is Anthony Davis' first win against Domantas Sabonis. So, they gonna celebrate out here."

He failed to understand the merit of this win

The value of this victory for the Lakers was far greater than the particular Kings announcer could understand. The nine-time All-Star often faced criticism for failing to rise as the consistent No. 1 player for the Purple and Gold. However, with a 3-0 start to the season and Davis scoring 30+ points in each game, he has shown his ability to be a reliable leader.

More importantly, after the Kings swept them in last season's regular-season series, the Lakers finally snapped that streak with a resilient fourth-quarter comeback, in which AD knocked down a clutch free throw. So, while L.A. had every reason to celebrate their No. 1 option finally asserting himself as a dominant force and a worthy candidate for the 2025 MVP race, this victory held an even greater significance for the franchise because of how strong they have looked so far, at the beginning of this season.
