Puerto Rico: One of the speakers at the Trump rally, stand-up comic Tony Hinchcliffe, labeled Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage.” The Harris campaign immediately criticized Hinchcliffe’s joke , and Puerto Rican music star Bad Bunny backed the vice president shortly after Hinchcliffe’s appearance at the rally. Trump’s closing message: The Madison Square Garden rally was billed as the opening of his closing argument to voters before Election Day. Trump repeated many of his same attacks on Harris, called the U.S. an “occupied country” because of a surge in immigration and emphasized his plans to impose tariffs on foreign imports and companies that outsource production. New tax proposal: During the rally, Trump rolled out a new tax proposal , saying he would support a tax credit for family caregivers who take care of a parent or loved one. Ukraine aid: An audit by the U.S. Inspector General says the Department of Defense didn’t properly document more than $1 billion in payments to Ukraine following Russia’s 2022 invasion of Kyiv . The audit, which reviewed $2.1 billion funds approved for Ukraine that year, found that more than half of the payments, roughly 67%, lacked paperwork or were improperly recorded. Cease-fire proposal: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi announced Sunday that his country has proposed a two-day cease-fire between Israel and Hamas during which four hostages in Gaza would be released. There has been no immediate response from Israel or Hamas. While Hamas wants Israeli forces out of Gaza as a precondition to a cease-fire, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed Israel will remain in Gaza until Hamas is destroyed. E. coli outbreak: Quarter Pounders are returning to McDonald’s menus after the fast-food giant says testing ruled out beef patties as the source of the E. coli outbreak that killed one person and left at least 75 others sick across 13 states. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration believes slivered onions from a single supplier are the likely source of contamination, McDonald’s said. The company said it will resume selling the Quarter Pounder at affected restaurants — mostly in the Midwest and Mountain states — without slivered onions in the coming week. What to know >
