76ers could cut ties with $16.3 million former No. 15 pick via trade to Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers will be looking to add wing scoring between now and February and could be calling the Philadelphia 76ers about the availability of one of their rotational players.

The Lakers are off to an excellent 3-0 start. Los Angeles looks completely renewed under the leadership of J.J. Redick, and contender status could be on the menu for the Lakers this season.

That being said, LeBron James turns 40 in December and Anthony Davis is prone to miss some time due to injury over the course of 82 games. How will Los Angeles fare when it comes to maintaining this elite start throughout the long journey that is the NBA season?

The Lakers need reinforcements offensively to help answer the above question. Expect rumors involving Brandon Ingram , Kyle Kuzma , Coby White , Buddy Hield , and others to persist over the next few months.

Another player to watch in connection to Los Angeles is 28-year-old Kelly Oubre Jr. of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Oubre Jr. is capable of acting like a second option on many nights. The most recent example was Philly’s second game of the season on Friday (a loss to the Toronto Raptors), in which Oubre dropped 28 points on 9-for-17 from the field (3-for-6 from three) to go along with 2 steals.

A lot of scouts turn their noses up at Oubre Jr.’s career 32.7 percent three-point percentage, but when Oubre gets hot, there’s no stopping him, and a team like the top-heavy Lakers would only need Oubre to catch fire some of the time.

Oubre Jr. is a great guy to have on the wing if you already have a star or two because he doesn’t need any plays called for him to be dangerous. He shoots with confidence off the catch, specializing in operating in the corner where he can also rip through and surge baseline for one of his patented two-handed slams.

Oubre Jr. is in his tenth NBA season and has accrued a ton of experience in the league in different situations. Plus, he’s in the middle of his athletic prime.

He’s an underrated asset on the trade market that the Lakers should pay attention to, even if he can’t be moved until January.

Oubre Jr., a former No. 15 overall pick, is in the first year of a two-year, $16.3 million contract (player option next season).
