Cowboys star goes after media

The Dallas Cowboys should hope they can point to Trevon Diggs confronting a reporter with a “deez nuts” joke as their watershed moment.

Dallas suffered its fourth loss of the season after allowing 21 third-quarter points to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football . And early in the third quarter, Diggs was called out by WFAA sports reporter Mike Leslie on social media for an apparent lack of effort on one play.

The play in question saw the Cowboys cornerback seemingly running at half speed as he attempted to chase down 49ers tight end George Kittle during a 43-yard reception that set up a San Francisco touchdown.

“What is Trevon Diggs doing on this play?” Leslie asked while sharing video of the questionable route Diggs took before pushing Kittle out of bounds near the goal line.

Diggs saw the question, and he most definitely didn’t like the question.

Shortly after the game, the Alabama product exited the locker room while still wearing his pads and uniform to approach a group of reporters and confront Leslie.

“That’s what you took from that?” Diggs asked. “Out of that whole play, that’s what you took from that? You don’t know football. You can’t do nothing that I do. You can’t go out there and do nothing. Stay in your lane, buddy. Stop trying me, dog.”

Diggs can pretend Leslie was wrong for calling him out on social media, but the play speaks for itself. And while Diggs ultimately assisted in pushing Kittle out of bounds, the lackadaisical route he took to get there was worth noting.

“Just asking the question, Trevon,” Leslie replied. “I mean, I’m happy to have you answer the question… we can talk about it more.”

Diggs, however, didn’t seem interested in talking about the play in question. He wanted to talk about something else.

“Talk about deez nuts,” Diggs said before walking back into the locker room.

Diggs could have attempted to have a football conversation with Leslie, or he could have made a deez nuts joke. The latter is better for social media. Time will tell if it’s better for the Cowboys.

Suffice it to say, things aren’t going well for the 3-4 Dallas Cowboys. Their quarterback looks wildly overpaid, their head coach seems destined to get the boot and their owner is threatening to fire local radio hosts . But if this loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football somehow becomes a turning point in their season, let it be the “deez nuts” joke that gets the credit.
