City of Sarasota re-enforces downtown parking rules after hurricane interlude

Sarasota again enforced downtown parking Monday after a brief respite due to the recent hurricane bonanza.

The city will begin by enforcing safety violations — such as illegal parking in handicapped spaces, blocked fire hydrants, and parking obstructions. Paid parking enforcement will resume on Nov. 4.

However, free parking will remain in place at the barrier islands.

"Public parking will remain free on St. Armands Circle and Lido Key , as the two hardest hit areas in Sarasota continue to undergo restoration following back-to-back destructive hurricanes Helene and Milton," according to a Friday afternoon city statement.

City officials are still repairing the St. Armands Garage electronic system after storm damage.
