Scotty McCreery gave a stunning performance at the recent Concert for Carolina, raising money for his home state of North Carolina after the devastation of Hurricane Helene. The 31-year-old sang “Carolina to Me,” from his 2021 Same Truck album, a song that pays tribute to the state he still calls home.
“Incredible night last night in Charlotte with $24 million raised for those affected by Helene and over 82,000 in attendance,” McCreery captioned a video of his performance, which he shared on social media. “Huge thank you to Luke Combs and Eric Church. I love you North Carolina.”
It was Combs who first had the idea to organize the Concert for Carolina, adding McCreery, James Taylor, Billy Strings, Keith Urban, Bailey Zimmerman, Sheryl Crow. Chase Rice and Parmalee to the lineup.
McCreery spoke out soon after the overwhelming destruction caused by Hurricane Helene was revealed, vowing to do all he could to help those in need.
“It’s tough to find the words, but Gabi and I have been so sad to see the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene,” McCreery posted on social media. “This storm has affected so many people, many of them are our personal friends and neighbors. I see a lot of you asking on here how to help those in need in Western North Carolina, East Tennessee Southwestern Virginia, Georgia, and Florida.
“If you are able to help financially, here are three organizations that we love and have personally donated to,” he continued, listing Samaritan’s Purse, Greater Good Music and Baptists on Mission. “They are doing amazing work to help those devastated communities.
Fortunately, the Concert for Carolina was an overwhelming success, thanks to the efforts of Combs, Church and so many more.
“My goodness, what a night!” Combs shared on social media after the event. “This will undoubtedly go down as the night I am most proud of in my career. Being able to give back to the place that gave me so much. There are so many people to thank for helping making this night possible on such short notice. My team, band and crew worked so hard to pull this off and I seriously can’t thank them enough … We were able to raise 24.5 MILLION DOLLARS for the people of Western North Carolina and I’m so thankful and humbled to be able to be a part of that.
“There were countless friends, family, and neighbors there and you could truly feel the love in that stadium last night,” he added.
