A woman fighting over her ex-husband with his new girlfriend was shot Sunday by the man when the new lover called on him for help, DeLand police said.

The shooting occurred in the 1000 block of Springdale Court in the Spring Hill community at 8:36 p.m.

Bertram Martin, 30, also known as "C" was charged with three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was being held Monday in the Volusia County Branch Jail without bail.

More charges against Martin are possible as the shooting is still under investigation, said city of DeLand spokesman Chris Graham.

"(The women) began fighting over Bertram, which ended with (the ex-wife) punching out the (girlfriend's) driver side window," investigating officers wrote in an arrest report.

In a video of the incident, police said the girlfriend was seen yelling "C" multiple times and then Martin appeared in the video holding a gun pointed at his ex-wife.

Investigators said they saw a muzzle flash and the 30-year-old ex-wife fall onto the asphalt. Martin then walked toward the ex-wife's 28-year-old brother firing multiple times and the man is seen collapsing in a woodpile on the side of the road, the report states.

Martin also shot the ex-wife's 33-year-old sister, police said.

All the victims were transported to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford. The brother of the ex-wife was listed in critical condition, Graham said on Monday.

Police were able to talk to the ex-wife and her sister at the hospital. Both identified Martin as the person who shot them, police said.

Martin refused to talk to police at the scene of the shooting but later turned himself in at the DeLand police station, investigators said.

Court records show Martin and his ex-wife were officially divorced on Aug. 29.

Martin has also been previously arrested for pulling out a gun in an argument in 2012.

Court records show that in 2018 Martin was arrested for pointing a gun at his sister during an argument over financial issues. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and improper exhibition of a firearm/dangerous weapon.

According to court records, the prosecutors did not charge Martin in that case.

free him, I know he believes in peace and happiness. we know C as a pro boxer, and he knew how to keep Peace. when gossip is being spreaded or someone pure pressuring someone to do something is completely wrong. the ex wife should have been looking for happiness not drama.
