According to Pelham Police Department, the shooting is believed to have stemmed from a road rage incident on I-65. This incident is just one of several road rage incidents that have occurred. ABC 33/40 has done several reports this year and in recent years regarding road rage shootings and incidents.Clay Ingram, the public relations and marketing director of AAA Alabama said road rage incidents are a growing concern."We did a study in 2019 to check that very thing. We found that almost 80% of drivers out there have experienced some form of high aggression, or severe anger or road rage in the previous 30 days prior to the study that we did. Almost 80% is a really really high number," explained Ingram.Ingram said since the study was done, it appears the problem is getting worse."Yes, without a doubt it gets worse every year. You don't have to get on the highway very often to realize that. In fact, I just drove to Dallas yesterday and I saw a lot of road rage from other drivers, a lot of people making bad decisions, a lot of aggressive driving, a lot of frustration throughout the day driving from Birmingham to Dallas. It's not just a local thing, it's everywhere and it seems to be getting worse and worse every year," said Ingram. "I think we just need to change our mindset a little bit about that, maybe a lot for some people. It's something we deal with more and more every day and it's really just completely unnecessary most of the time."Ingram said there's a few things you can do to try and avoid finding yourself in that situation that someone becomes aggressive with you while traveling. He said being a more courteous driver, allowing people to merge into traffic, keeping a safe distance can help. Additionally, Ingram said to try not to do anything to make a driver change their actions, such as slamming on their breaks or having to adjust their steeling wheel and swerve.If you find yourself in a situation where someone becomes angry at you on the roadway, Ingram said, "the best thing you can do is avoid making eye contact with them, try to be as courteous and understanding as you can be, ignore them and let them go on their way. The worst thing you can do is respond to aggression with more aggression. That is going to nothing but escalate the situation."If you find yourself in a dangerous situation, Ingram said to call 911.Ingram said it is recommended if someone is following you to not drive home and pull into a public place, such as a shopping center, gas station or police department. Ingram said to avoid being blocked in and make sure you have a way to drive off. Ingram said you should keep your doors locked and not engage with someone who is approaching you.</div></body>
