Over the weekend, the hallowed halls of Central Saint Martins played host to Vogue’s annual conference, Forces of Fashion, which in a full circle fashion moment, was a homecoming of sorts for the world-renowned designers who took to the stage, to muse on the theme “the power of the runway”. Christopher Kane, Isamaya Ffrench, Stella McCartney, John Galliano, Conner Ives and Feben all studied at the fashion school – and to the joy of current students – ventured upstairs to the university’s design studios, where surrounded by sewing machines, mannequins and steaming irons, Galliano, forty years on from his 1984 Les Incroyables graduate show, took a moment to sign his name in pink chalk on a wall.
