Good afternoon everyone. We take a quick look into the short-range forecast and begin to see some issues in regards to heavy showers and thunderstorms possible across a wide range of the Midwest.

A vigorous low pressure system that will be responsible for heavy mountain snows tonight and tomorrow across the Rockies, will head into the Midwest and collide with much warmer and more humid air. This difference in air masses, plus some shear in the upper levels of the atmopshere, will be responsible for a possible severe weather outbreak Wednesday.

Areas such as Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin, all need to watch this scenario very closely. While the Storm Prediction Center includes northeast Texas into the fold, I do believe the focus of the energy will be more to the north than the map provided today by the SPC. That's not to say Texas won't see any severe weather, but the core of the energy will be more north.

Look for the risk of severe thunderstorms from late morning on Wednesday, starting off with scattered individual cells & clusters, then forming more of a broken line or more organized line that will head east, northeast, and southeast. The primary risk will be damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the risk of some tornadoes.
