The FIU Panthers return home to Pitbull Stadium in Miami to face the New Mexico State Aggies in a Conference USA clash on Tuesday night. CBS Sports Network has live coverage starting at 7 p.m. ET.
Aside from inking a stadium naming rights deal with an international recording artist, the Panthers haven't had much to celebrate this year. The same can be said for the Aggies, who most recently snapped a five-game losing streak in a 33-30 win over Louisiana Tech in double OT.
With both teams mired at 1-3 in conference play, and no real good reason to watch, you'll enjoy this game more with a wager on it. Let's get to our New Mexico State vs. FIU odds, prop bets and predictions, and hopefully cash a winning ticket or two on highly-rated sports betting apps .

New Mexico State betting news and analysis
You're heard the expression, "If you have two quarterbacks, you actually have none." John Madden made that famous. Well, the Aggies (2-5 SU, 2-5 ATS) have had four quarterbacks see significant action after Brandon Nuñez made his presence felt in the win over LA Tech.
Nuñez joined Parker Awad, Santino Marucci, and Deuce Hogan in the quarterback carousel with all four players having at least five pass attempts. The only other FBS team to do that this year? Of course, that'd be FIU. That's a big reason why these teams probably come in with near identical overall records.
On the bright side, New Mexico State DE Kale Edwards earned CUSA Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording four sacks in the win over LA Tech. That's tied for the most in a game by any FBS player this season. No word on whether Edwards will see time under center for the Aggies.
Talk about a scheduling quirk. New Mexico State will have played one game (at FIU) in 24 days, the longest such stretch of any team in the country. The Aggies need to win four of their final five games to make their third straight bowl appearance. After going 4-0 in midweek games last season, New Mexico State is 0-1 heading into Tuesday's tilt at FIU.
Out of 134 FBS teams, New Mexico State ranks 126th with 292.2 total yards per game. Looking for the glass-half-full view of that stat? FIU checks in at 130th with 284.7 yards per game. Chances are good you'll find an UNDER prediction at the end of this article.
FIU betting news & analysis
FIU (2-6 SU, 5-3 ATS) has covered three of its last four games. The Panthers made us look really smart when we picked them against CUSA's best team in Liberty as a double-digit road dog. They lost 30-24 in OT, but cashed a nice ticket.
The next week, FIU faced CUSA's worst team in UTEP, and we had egg all over our face after taking the Panthers as a 7-point road favorite . UTEP clowned FIU, 30-21.
Stayed away last week when Sam Houston State went to FIU and beat them 10-7 in a not-so-instant classic. FIU QB Keyone Jenkins was pulled from that game after completing one of nine pass attempts for 16 yards. Chayden Perry took over for Jenkins, who had injured his shoulder the previous week against UTEP.
Given the uncertainty at QB, and with FIU adopting a heavy ground-game approach under Perry, we're not real keen on laying any points with FIU -- much less 9.5.
The Panthers have been a favorite twice this year. How'd that go? They lost outright as a 12-point home favorite to FCS squad Monmouth, 45-42. Then came the nine-point loss to cellar-dweller UTEP with FIU favored to win by a TD.
New Mexico State vs. FIU ATTD scorer prop bets at FanDuel
Check out a sampling of anytime TD scorer bets for New Mexico State vs. FIU at FanDuel :
- FIU Lexington Joseph -115
- FIU Eric Rivers +115
- NMSU Seth McGowan +125
- FIU Dean Patterson +135
- FIU Kejon Owens +140
- NMSU Brandon Nunez +190
Consider betting on Owens to find the end zone at plus-money odds. He leads FIU with five rushing TDs, and we expect the Panthers to rely heavily on the ground game on Tuesday night.
New Mexico State vs. FIU prediction: Underdog Aggies are the play versus unreliable Panthers
The Aggies aren't a good football team, and the Panthers will likely win. Let's get that out of the way right up front. But FIU is winless as a favorite this season, its starting QB is banged up, and this has all the makings of a ground-and-pound affair that might be hard to watch.
Picks: New Mexico State +9.5, UNDER 44
