Gina Taylor Johnson, 51, of Mechanicsville, was killed and a Hughesville woman suffered critical injuries in a head-on crash on Monday morning in Prince Frederick, officials say.

The crash was reported shortly after 7:15 a.m. on Oct. 28 in the 6600 block of Hallowing Point Road (Route 231).

Investigators say that Johnson was driving a Hyundai Kona east on Hallowing Point Road with a woman in a Ford Fusion behind her.

At the same time, a Nissan Rogue being driven by a Hughesville woman heading westbound crossed the double yellow center line, leading to a head-on collision with the Hyundai, causing it to collide with the 19-year-old's Ford.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders after being entrapped inside her vehicle.

The driver of the Nissan was flown to a local trauma center in critical condition, and the 19-year-old driver of the Ford Fusion and a juvenile passenger were taken by an ambulance to CalvertHealth Medical Center.

It remains unclear what caused the driver of the Nissan Rogue to cross over the double yellow lines.

    The crash remains under investigation.
