Rumblings about David Fincher (Mindhunter) developing a U.S.-set Squid Game spinoff series (not reboot or silm) appear to be getting louder. With less than two months to go until the second season of director, writer & executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk's Squid Game hits Netflix screens, there have been some very interesting rumblings about the franchise and how it could expand over the past few months – and now, it looks like those rumblings are getting louder. With the main series set to end its run with a third season in 2025, Deadline Hollywood is reporting exclusively that David Fincher (Fight Club, Mindhunter) will be developing an English-language series spinoff (nor reboot) from Squid Game that would reportedly be set in the same universe but reportedly in the U.S. Just so there's no confusion, Netflix had no comment to offer to the report so none of this is official. If true, it's expected that Fincher would spend a good chunk of 2025 on the series – not a feature film, as previously rumored – though little else is known beyond that at this stage.
