LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP)– Golfers teed off Monday morning at Ludlow Country Club to support a new recovery center in our area.

The Michael J Dias Foundation hosted a golf tournament to raise funds to build a sober living home for women in western Massachusetts. Donations toward the project reached $162,000 since June of this year.

Grace Dias, president of the foundation, told 22News what the large turnout meant to her.

“In this area, there’s only three sober houses for women currently and so there’s a lack obviously there’s a huge need,” remarked Dias. “The fact that year after year people support us for the different things that we’re trying to do at the time. It’s just amazing.”

The Bureau of Substance Addiction Services reported over 17-thousand emergency room visits last year due to substance abuse. They also reported that around 30% of people who receive services are women.

More information on how to donate can be found on the Michael J. Dias Foundation website.
