CHAVES COUNTY, N.M . (KRQE) – Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said she has requested a major disaster declaration from United States President Joe Biden in response to flooding in Roswell earlier this month. The Roswell area was drenched with nearly six inches of rain less than six hours earlier this month.

Officials said two people died as a result and estimated nearly $500 million in damage. A major disaster declaration from the president would provide a wide range of federal assistance programs for residents and infrastructure. According to FEMA’s website, the request must be based on the governor finding the situation beyond the capability of state and local governments.

i have lived in Roswell since I was 2 years old this was by far the worst thing I have ever seen happened! so many GOOD people have been affected and don't have the resources to rebuild what was broken. I hope they do so that these people can rebuild their lives.
