DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — On Monday, the Ohio Secretary of State brought together drinks and politics to encourage people to get out and vote.

Frank LaRose has been traveling all over the state since the summer months to get people to register to vote and get them excited to cast their ballot on election day. Today, he visited the Warped Wings Brewery in Dayton as one of his final stops before Nov. 5.

LaRose met with voters to spread awareness about the closing window for early voting, which officially ends the Sunday before Election Day.

“Ohioans are taking advantage of early voting and it’s not a one side or the other kind of phenomenon. We’re seeing large participation by Republicans and Democrats. In fact, right now, registered Republicans outpace registered Democrats by over 160,000. So that’s a great thing that Ohioans are taking advantage,” said LaRose.

Over 1.7 million Ohioans have already cast their ballots for the 2024 election so far.

“What’s disappointing in the past is that depending upon the cycle, voter turnout may only be 60% during a presidential race and during a municipal race, it can be as low as 12%,” said Dan Harkins, local voter.

Ohioans have early voting opportunities every day up until Nov. 3 By Nov. 4, absentee ballots need to be postmarked, or they’ll be null and void.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Oct. 29 at 8:30 p.m. — these applications must be in hand at your BOE office. Those that are postmarked with tomorrow’s date will not count.

Check with your local board of elections to find the locations and times of your polling location.
