Duanesburg girls basketball is on to the Class C state final

TROY, NY ( NEWS10 ) — The Duanesburg girls basketball team advanced to the Class C state championship game after beating Frewsburg 54-51 Thursday night. Senior small forward Hannah Mulhern scored the Eagles’ last six points to give them the lead, and Allison O’Hanlon led Duanesburg with 21 points.

The Bears opened the game with a 6-4 lead, but Duanesburg battled back. O’Hanlon earned a layup and a trip to the charity stripe, giving the Eagles a 9-8 lead. Despite that, both teams traded some buckets and ended the quarter tied at 14.

However, during the second quarter, the Eagles offense took flight. O’Hanlon played a big part in helping the Eagles push their lead to 30-21 at halftime.

Duanesburg’s offense stayed steady in the third quarter. Katie O’Hanlon showed some sharp shooting in addition to fellow senior, Alex Moses who knocked down some three-point shots, giving the Eagles a nine-point lead heading into the final quarter.

Frewsburg managed to erase the deficit in the fourth, tying the game at 48 thanks to a clutch shot from Abery Harvey. In light of that, the Eagles didn’t panic. Hannah Mulhern went on a 6-0 scoring run to secure the lead and ultimately the win.

“We needed it and I just had to step up and I was kind of going a little slow the first half of the game, and I just didn’t really hit my shots, so I had to step up in that position and I had that open layup and they were all great passes from other people,” Mulhern said.

The Eagles will play Section 4’s Moravia for the Class C state championship on Friday, March 15, at Hudson Valley Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:15 PM.
