CHERRY VALLEY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) – Rabbit Goody, the owner of a weaving mill in Otsego County, was recently featured in Smithsonian Magazine. According to the article, her expertise in preserving the past is why Hollywood looks to her for guidance. The mill has reproduced textiles for more than 70 films and television shows.

Goody started weaving in her late teens. After years of weaving by hand, she learned how to operate mechanized looms to expand her production. In 1989, she opened Thistle Hill Weavers in Cherry Valley.

“I have the ability to read weavers drafts from the past. Weavers left recipes, okay, just like cookbooks of how they did certain things and what the patterns are, and it looks like music if you don’t know what you’re looking at,” she explained. “So I’m able to recreate things that weavers were doing in the 15th and 16th Centuries without a problem.”

Goody and her team worked on the fabric, both versions, for the character Ahsoka Tano’s cloak. Not only did they contribute textiles for The Mandalorian and Ahsoka on Disney+, but they also made weather-appropriate textiles for the character performers in California and Florida.
