Hudson-Athens Lighthouse designated as endangered historic place

HUDSON, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The Hudson-Athens Lighthouse has been designated as one of the most endangered historic places in the United States. The lighthouse received the designation from the National Trust for Historic Preservation on Wednesday.

The lighthouse was built 150 years ago. Officials warn the lighthouse is at risk of collapsing in a few years because of erosion along the Hudson River caused by large commercial ships.

Local leaders hope the designation will raise awareness and lead to renewed efforts to save it.
