ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Sports fans and stars gathered at the New York State Capitol on Tuesday in support of updating the state’s fantasy sports laws. A new bill proposed in the senate would allow the New York State Gaming Commission to give licenses to more fantasy sport operators.

Sen. Joe Addabbo is the bill’s sponsor. He said the change would generate between $150 million and $200 million in new revenue for New York over the next 10 years. The law would also raise the age to play from 18 to 21.

“What’s most special is one not just seizing the opportunity but also making the game safer,” former New York Giant David Tyree said. “The big leap to 21, making it a unique safe experience for people to make the best decisions.”

According to a poll from the Fantasy Advocates for New York Sports, 75 percent of democrats and 76 percent of republicans support expanding the state’s daily fantasy sports laws.
