LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– Owners with short-term rentals in Warren County are being reminded they must register with the County to collect county occupancy tax. The Warren County Treasurer’s Office said registration is required by county law, and a vendor has been hired to identify unregistered short-term rentals.

Interest and penalties can be imposed for unpaid occupancy tax on rentals that offer a 30-day stay or shorter. The 4% occupancy tax has been collected on 1,500 homes to date, and the County believes hundreds have yet to register.

Treasurer Christine Norton said the county is thankful that most owners have registered and that property can be held liable for back payments. “The funds collected through Occupancy Tax help improve our hospitality industry and make Warren County’s tourism economy stronger,” she said.
